Pro Restaurant Equipment Review
American Eagle meat grinders are some of the best quality meat grinders we have seen, especially for the price. We like them... a lot! Like it's smaller sibling, the AE-G12N, the #22 has the same stainless steel construction so you get all of the benefits, but it packs even more power and can handle even more meat! The #22 is a taller and heavier machine and the grinder head is a #22 size, we recommend the machine over the #12 if you are using the vegetable processor accessory (AE-VS12NH) The machine is definitely geared more towards the food service industry in terms of its design. Everything is made of stainless steel so it's very shiny and attractive. It also means that it's easy to clean. When you pick up the grinder head, you can tell how hefty it is. It's even heavier than the #12 which is already very durable. A standard forward reverse switch is a nice touch, but in our testing, the meat grinder whipped through a ton of meat without any hesitation, so we doubt you will really ever need to use the reverse mode. We ground about 10 lbs of meat in less than a minute, so it's about twice as fast as the #12. This machine is very fast and it can easily handle even more than what American Eagle specifies! It's an excellent upgrade if you need the additional processing capability and speed. We did not have any turkey or chicken with bone to test with, but the owner's manual states that the machine should be able to handle small bones. So even though it's a commercial restaurant grinder, all of you pet owners out there that make pet food or hunters will easily appreciate the power in this grinder! The grinder motor itself is very quiet. When we were using it, the motor made a low purring noise, even while we were feeding the meat through. It didn't appear to struggle at all. Lastly, although the manufacturer suggests exercising caution when putting the grinder head parts in the dishwasher, we decided to test the feeder pan, auger, grinder plates, knife, and grinder head in a dishwasher, and everything came out wonderfully, just like it did for the #12. We did not notice any rust spots forming or anything, but we did follow their suggestion to apply food grade silicone to the parts after washing. Is this worth the upgrade over the #12? It's about a 250 dollar difference on our website, but we highly suggest the upgrade if you are planning on processing more than just meat and are going to use the vegetable shredder accessory. The additional power and the extra inches in height allow for more clearance below the output chute of any accessory you plan to use without needing to place the motor on a stand or something else to raise the height. The AE-G22N is well worth the upgrade, but if you are on a budget, the AE-G12N can certainly serve your needs too. What's really great about this #22 grinder is that it's still designed with a #12 hub, so you can use the same accessories and attachments from both American Eagle and other manufacturers who make standard #12 hub accessories. It's not as common to see a #22 meat grinder that still has a standard #12 hub.

Bought meat grinder, and vegetable attachment about 2 months ago. All working good. may buy tenderizer next. Machine is very heavy.
This machine works well, however, it is horrible to clean. I've owned other grinders that with just very hot water, the pieces came right clean. Not so with this unit. The main unit wipes right off, but the attachments are another story. The inside of the grinding attachment and the tenderizer are rough cast and not even close to smooth. Food sticks like glue and it's difficult to get to it to scrub it off. I had to buy brushes to reach between blades of the tenderizer and to reach inside the grinder. I did find a liberal spray with cooking spray prior to use does help, though. The feed opening in the grinding attachment is very small in comparison to my other grinder. The tenderizer works great, if it just wasn't so hard to clean.
PRO RESTAURANT EQUIPMENT RESPONSE: Hello Tammy, thank you for your review. Some of our other customers have asked us for some cleaning tips and maybe this might help you too: The grinder head is made of stainless steel. Have you tried to put it in a dishwasher? As long as after washing you remove and dry immediately, this should work a bit better than just trying to rinse by hand. From what we have been told by American Eagle, the feed chute is specifically sized to prevent hands from entering since their meat grinder is meant to be used in a commercial food service operation and the safety standards are very high. A lot of other grinders have larger chutes and a plastic safety guard on the tray, but those tend to get lost often or not used in a restaurant setting which risks a safety incident. In our own testing, the chute size should not pose an issue as long as you cut your meat into strips that are small enough to fit into the chute. The machine is pretty fast and should handle grinding as fast as you can feed the meat if you first cut it down to size. Regarding the tenderizer, the manufacturer does recommend the cleaning method of using wire brushes to get in between the blades and hand washing. This was also confirmed in our own testing. We haven't found a meat tenderizer yet that doesn't require this type of cleaning method, maybe one of these days a manufacturer can come up with something better, but it might be a challenge simply because of the way a motorized meat tenderizer has to work. In the meantime, our only recommendation is to simply try to do all of your processing in large batches, this way you can at least clean the tenderizer only once instead of multiple times throughout the day. We hope this information is helpful. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any additional feedback or questions!
